January 12, 1963 – Bishop Emilio Cinense, DD and Msgr. Pedro Puno founded Assumption Junior College. The school was housed at the Assumpta Building, downtown San Fernando. Sr. Gunfrida Schneyer, OSB headed the school. There were 275 enrollees. First program offerings were: Bachelor of Arts, BS Commerce, BS Education, BS Elementary Education From 1968 to 1974, the young Josel took his elementary education under the Benedictine Sisters at the Holy Family Academy in Angeles City. Responding to the initial promptings of a priestly calling, he went to Mother of Good Counsel Seminary in San Fernando where he finished his high school education in 1978. He pursued his Priestly Formation at the Jesuit-run San Jose Seminary in Loyola Heights, Quezon City where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree Major in Philosophy in 1982.
