The University of Lille I is a Sciences and Technology orientated higher education establishment, which also includes the Faculty of Geography and the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences. The University of Lille was founded in 1562 by the Spanish and became French in 1667. It became established in the heart of Lille in 1854, and then in 1964 it moved to its current site in Villeneuve d’Ascq.
The USTL is one of the great French universities in the fields of research and training.
