François Rabelais University, named after the French writer François Rabelais, was initially created by grouping together several pre-existing educational institutions in 1969. Based in the city of Tours, the university has seven different campuses, and is also comprised of seven different academic departments:
- Arts and Humanities
- Center for Advanced Renaissance Studies
- Department of Law, Economics and Social Sciences
- Department of Literature and Languages
- Department of Medicine
- Department of Sciences and Technology
- Department of Pharmacy
The university also has two technology institutes: the Tours University Institute of Technology and the Blois University Institute of Technology.
