The Autonomous University of Guerrero was established in 1960. In addition to its main campus in the Mexican city of Chilpancingo, the university also has additional campuses and facilities in Acapulco, Taxco, Iguala, Tixtla, Ometepec, Tecpan de Galeana, Altamirano and other cities in the state. The state of Guerrero is located towards the south of the country, and is mostly known for its mountainous regions and attractive coastline.
Away from the lecture theater or seminar group, the university is also home to a professional soccer team, Club Deportivo Águilas de la Universidad Autónoma de Guerrero. They currently play in the fifth tier of Mexican football.
The city of Chilpancingo (or, to give it its full name, Chilpancingo de los Bravo), is the state capital and has a population of approximately 187,000 people. The university plays a vital role in the local economy, with other notable industries including food production and alcohol brewing.
