Erected in 1957, Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta (Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta), also widely known as UIN Jakarta, is the oldest and most reputable state Islamic university under MORA (Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia). It was named after one of the most recognized Islamic Saint in Java, Syarif Hidayatullah, who was born in 1448 in Cairo, Egypt and died in 1568 in Cirebon, West Java, Indonesia. The university has connections to over 27218 Kyais (heads of Islamic Boarding schools), and more than 2000 academics consisted of rectors, deans, lecturers, and heads of departments of Islamic State Universities throughout Indonesia. Situated in Ciputat, Tangerang Selatan, Banten province, UIN Jakarta’s 83-hectare campus houses 11 faculties in addition to some study centers for Islamic studies as well as other advanced science studies.
