Thank you all for supporting my candidacy in the elections of the Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. I realize a huge responsibility laid on me after being elected as the Rector. Great interest expressed by Georgian society towards the fate of our university confirms that the aspiration towards education and science is still strong in Georgia. It makes me believe that the university will definitely embark on a road to revival. Success in the elections is only the beginning of this difficult road, which we, the university professors and students, will have to pass jointly for the victory of the university’s idea. The first Georgian university established in 1918 by Ivane Javakhishvili and a group of his followers is the symbol of civilization, democracy and identity of the Georgian state; its goal is to provide students with the best possible education and promote their national thinking, as well as to integrate into a uniform European educational and scientific space.

To maintain high standards achieved during its century-old existence, TSU strives to be the best in both research and educational spheres. As the leader of Georgia’s higher education, TSU has assumed a huge mission – to maintain, create and disseminate education. The first-ever national university in the Caucasus was opened in 1918 laying the foundation for a European-type higher school in Georgia, based on Georgian educational traditions.
